I am giving myself a pass and I think you should too. Not give me a pass, but give yourself one. Give yourself a pass on whatever it is you think you should be doing better.
I know the experts want you to live your best life, be the person you came to be, to jump with out knowing you will be caught. But, if you don’t its okay. There is nothing wrong with you for not jumping. There is nothing wrong with you for waiting. There is nothing you should be doing.
Let me just be clear:
It is okay to wait.
It is okay to not know.
It is okay to not be putting your stuff out there.
It is okay to sit on the sidelines.
There is nothing wrong with you.
We are in a culture that is telling us that action is more important than being.
That doing is more important than waiting.
That jumping in is more important than holding on.
I am here to tell you it is okay.
It is okay to want security.
It is okay to want love.
It is okay to want to be normal.
All of these things are okay.
We are in a culture that picks on the person who needs those things. We want to give them wings. We want to push them out of the nest. We want to tell them to fly. But most of us don’t know how. We don’t know what direction to go and that is okay.
Confusion is okay. Not having your shit together is okay. Not even knowing where your shit is…is okay.
I think our job is to make everything okay. To stop fighting ourselves. To stop needing to be better or more or different. You. Just the way you are right now is okay. It is more than okay. It is perfect. It is exactly who you need to be in this moment. It is exactly where you need to be in this moment. It’s okay.
I think the only job I have is to look into my mirror and see my 43 year old self staring back and approve of her just the way she is. Make peace with her incompletion. Love her anyway. Love her despite her failed dreams, lackluster ideas, and dimpled thighs. She deserves my approval. She deserves to feel okay. And so do you.
